Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of the main cutting angle (Kr) on surface roughness in the turning process of Aluminum 6061 using carbide tools coated with Titanium Aluminum Nitride(TiAlN). The main parameters observed were variations in the main cutting angle of 50° and 60°,
and spindle speeds of 1200 rpm (low) and 1600 rpm (high).The machining process was carried out using dry machining without coolant. An experimental method was applied to measure the surface roughness (Ra) for each treatment combination using the Surface Roughness Tester TR200. The
measurement results were analyzed using two-way ANOVA statistical tests to determine the
significance of the effects of the main cutting angle and spindle speed on surface roughness. The
results showed that both the main cutting angle and spindle speed significantly affect surface
roughness. The combination of a 60° cutting angle with 1600 rpm spindle speed produced the lowest
surface roughness, while the combination of a 50° cutting angle with 1200 rpm spindle speed
resulted in the highest roughness. Thus, increasing the cutting angle and spindle speed tends to
decrease the surface roughness value, which can improve the machining quality.
