Abstract
This research aims to design and build a horizontal boiler as a steam source in the essential oil distillation process from galam leaves (Melaleuca cajuputi). Galam leaf essential oil has extensive benefits in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and industrial sectors, but its production process requires an efficient steam heating system. The developed boiler prototype is designed with the capacity and dimensions to meet the needs of small-to-medium scale distillation, using a steam distillation method so that the material does not come into direct contact with water or heating. The research stages include literature review, design using CAD/SolidWorks software, preparation of tools and materials, fabrication process, and performance testing. Tests were conducted to assess frame strength, tube leakage, and heating process efficiency. The test results showed that the
boiler is able to produce steam stably, supports the distillation process, and has a
safe construction against working pressure. This research is expected to serve as a technical reference for the development of essential oil distillation equipment in
small and medium industries, while contributing to the more productive use of local natural resources
