Abstract
This study discusses the design and development of a cattle feed chopper machine aimed at improving the efficiency of feed preparation in Sungai Selari Village, Bukit Batu District, Bengkalis Regency. Most farmers in this area still rely on manual methods, such as using sickles to chop grass, which requires considerable time and labor. The designed machine uses a 3.5 HP Robin gasoline engine as the power source, a pulley and V-belt transmission system, and carbon steel chopping blades capable of processing various feed materials such as elephant grass, banana stems, and agricultural waste. The design process was carried out using SolidWorks software to ensure proper dimensions and component integration. Tests were conducted at three blade rotation speeds (800 rpm, 1200 rpm, and 1400 rpm) to evaluate their effects on chopping time, feed particle size, and collected feed weight. The results showed that higher blade speeds reduced chopping time and produced finer cuts; however, the collected feed weight tended to decrease at higher rpm. This machine is expected to help farmers save time and labor while increasing productivity and effectiveness in feed preparation.
