Abstract

This study aims to design a fiberglass vessel as a transportation mode for sand and gravel (sirtu) mining in the Kampar River, focusing on increasing cargo capacity without compromising performance and stability. The vessel is designed with a monohull form and analyzed using Maxsurf software to obtain hydrostatic, stability, and resistance data. The design results show a cargo capacity of 1.563 m³ per trip with a speed of 5.1 knots using a 7 HP outboard engine. In one day, a single vessel can perform 7 trips and carry approximately 10.94 m³. When three vessels operate simultaneously, the total volume of sirtu transported reaches 32.823 m³ per day, an increase of approximately 9% compared to the previous system. The vessel’s stability remains within safe limits, with a GMt value of 0.784 m and a maximum GZ of 0.268 m. The slight decrease in speed (±8%) compared to traditional wooden boats is considered acceptable, as it is offset by a significant increase in cargo capacity. The results indicate that this vessel design is more efficient both technically and economically, and can enhance productivity and the welfare of miners without increasing operational costs.
