Abstract

This study analyzes the solar panel requirements forpowering an electric motor on a speedboat as an environmentally friendly alternative to fossil-fuel engines. The system was designed using a 60Wp solar panel, a 48V 30Ah lithium-ion battery, a 500W DC motor, and a solar charge controller (SCC). Tests were conducted to evaluate the solar panel performance, system efficiency, battery capacity, and
power consumption at various speeds. Results show an average solar panel efficiency of 40.77% under clear weather and 34.65% under cloudy conditions, with output power ranging from 19.8 to 33.2W. The battery could operate the motor
for approximately 2 hours and 35 minutes under ideal conditions, while a full charge using a single solar panel required about 6.4 days. Power consumption varied by speed, from 70–111 W (low) to over 949,44W (high). This system is feasible for short to medium-range operations, with recommendations to increase solar panel and battery capacity for improved performance.
