Abstract
The coffee bean sieving process is an important stage in sorting the size of coffee beans after the roasting or drying process, in order to improve the quality and uniformity of the final product. However, the manual method that is still widely used by coffee farmers has various disadvantages such as time-consuming, labor-intensive, and less consistent in results. Therefore, this study aims to design and build a semi-automatic coffee bean sieving tool that can increase the efficiency of the sorting process. This tool is designed using a vibration system with an electric motor as the main drive and is equipped with different sized sieves to separate coffee beans based on size. The design process involves the stages of identifying user needs, mechanical design, material selection, and performance testing.
