Abstract
Machine layout is the arrangement of the position and distance between machines in the production process that affects work efficiency. This study aims to improve the efficiency of the machine layout on Woodyard Line 8 at a wood processing company in Riau. The initial, suboptimal layout resulted in long material movement distances, long processing times, and low productivity. Using the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) and Computerized Relative Allocation of Facilities Technique (CRAFT) methods, layout improvements were made based on ARC, ARD analysis, and rectilinear material handling distance calculations. As a result, the horizontal distance was reduced from 258.85 m to 217.20 m (16.09%), the vertical distance from 103.00 m to 86.00 m (16.50%), and the total distance from 361.85 m to 303.20 m (16.21%). These improvements increase operational efficiency, accelerate production, and reduce material handling costs, as well as becoming a reference for similar industries and MSMEs.
