Abstract

Gear damage in gearboxes can cause excessive vibrations, affecting machine performance and potentially leading to damage to other components. Early detection of such faults is essential to prevent losses due to downtime and high maintenance costs. This study aims to detect and analyze gearbox gear damage using vibration analysis and to identify differences in vibration characteristics under various fault conditions. The research was conducted experimentally on a WPA 50 gearbox with a 1:30 ratio, using an HTI-1201 vibrometer to measure velocity, acceleration, and displacement parameters at three measurement points (axial, horizontal, and vertical). The measurement data were analyzed and compared with the ISO 10816 standard to determine the severity level of the damage. The results show that normal conditions have a velocity value of ≤ 0.5 mm/s, whereas worn, half-tooth broken, and one-tooth broken conditions exhibit significant increases, exceeding the “Good” zone limit according to ISO 10816. The increase in vibration values correlates with the severity of the gear damage. In conclusion, vibration analysis is effective for detecting gear damage in gearboxes and can serve as a reference for the implementation of predictive maintenance.
