Abstract

The cylinder block is a vital component in motorcycle engines, serving as the combustion chamber and the movement area for the piston. However, cylinder blocks made from diasil (Die Casting Aluminum-Silicon) have limitations in terms of cooling efficiency and reparability, as this material cannot be re-bored (rehoned), making it usable only once. This study aims to design and modify diasil cylinder blocks by adding cooling fins on the outer wall and installing an inner liner to improve cooling efficiency and allow future repairs in case of wear. The
method used includes metal casting with recycled aluminum and the installation of the liner using turning and press-fitting techniques. Testing was conducted by comparing the operating temperatures between the original and modified cylinder blocks on a Yamaha Jupiter MX 135 motorcycle. The results showed that the modified cylinder block maintained a more stable engine temperature and offered cost efficiency due to its reusability. Therefore, this design provides a practical solution to overheating issues and the limitations of modification on diasil-based cylinder blocks.
