Abstract
Centrifugal pumps are one of the most widely used types of pumps in various industrial applications, particularly for transferring liquid fluids such as water, oil, and chemicals. The performance and efficiency of centrifugal pumps are influenced by several operational factors, one of which is the temperature of the fluid being pumped. This study was conducted experimentally to analyze the effect
of fluid temperature on the efficiency and performance of the centrifugal pump type P-WH138C-S. The results of the study show that the pump efficiency decreases as the temperature increases. At 30°C, the pump efficiency was
86.43%, then decreased to 67.4% at 45°C, and 59.1% at 60°C. The highest fluid pressure of 2.5 bar was indicated by the pressure gauge at a temperature of 30°C, with the highest flow rate of 32.43 L/min measured using a flowmeter. In addition, the pump’s rotational speed also increased with the rise in fluid temperature, from 2951.7 rpm at 30°C to 2952.5 rpm at 45°C, and 2954.3 rpm at 60°C.
Understanding the effect of temperature on pump performance can serve as a reference in efforts to optimize pump operation, improve energy efficiency, reduce operational costs, and extend the service life of the pump.
