Abstract

This study aims to design and evaluate the performance of a paving block pressmachine using a pneumatic system as an alternative to the manual method. The machine is designed with a 100 mm diameter pneumatic cylinder operating at a maximum pressure of 6 bar, to press hexagonal paving blocks with a cement to sand ratio of 1:3 and a water–cement ratio (w/c) of 0.60. The testing compares the compressive strength of paving blocks produced by the pneumatic system and the conventional method. The results show that the pneumatic system produced paving blocks with a compressive strength of 1,40 MPa, higher than the 0,80 MPa obtained by the manual method. The efficiency of the pneumatic system reached 75%
compared to the conventional method. These findings indicate that the pneumatic system improves both quality and production efficiency, making it suitable for small- to medium-scale paving block production.
