Abstract

Water quality is a crucial factor in shrimp farming, as parameters such as pH, salinity, and turbidity have a direct impact on shrimp growth and health. This study aims to design an Internet of Things (IoT)-based water quality monitoring system using an ESP32 microcontroller, equipped with a pH sensor, a Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) sensor for measuring salinity, and a turbidity sensor for measuring turbidity. Data from the sensors is displayed on a 20x4 LCD and sent in real-time to a Telegram bot, and is equipped with a buzzer as a warning system if parameters exceed the threshold. The tests were conducted in three different ponds at a shrimp farm in Bengkalis. The results showed that the average pH sensor readings were 8.33 (Pond 1), 8.33 (Pond 2), and 8.14 (Pond 3), with average errors of 3.72 %, 4.14 %, and 5.85 %. For the turbidity sensor, the average values obtained were 6.92 NTU, 6.34 NTU, and 4.89 NTU, all within the low category. The salinity sensor demonstrated high accuracy with average values of 27.39-27.44 PPT, and a maximum error of only 3.08 %. This system has been proven to provide accurate, responsive, and efficient monitoring results. The application of IoT technology allows users to perform remote monitoring and receive automatic early warnings. Thus, this system is expected to be a practical and cost-effective solution in supporting modern and sustainable shrimp farming.
