Abstract

This research aims to design and implement a plate thickness detection system based on a digital caliper that can automatically adjust the welding current using an Arduino Uno microcontroller. Proper welding requires current adjustment according to the material thickness, so this system is expected to improve the efficiency and quality of weld joints. The method involves collecting plate thickness data from the digital caliper, which is then processed by an Arduino program to generate the appropriate current through a control circuit. A simple linear regression calculation is applied to determine the relationship between plate thickness and the required welding current. The test results show that the system can accurately detect plate thickness and deliver the corresponding current, while also producing a heat input value that meets standard requirements. This system has the potential to be implemented in small- to medium-scale welding industries.
