Abstract

Mangrove Maintenance Activities In The Pambang Baru River Require A Watercraft Capable Of Operating In Shallow, Narrow, And Muddy Waters, Thus Necessitating A Propulsion System With Adequate Power, Ease Of Operation, and Environmental Safety. This Study Aims To Analyze The Propulsion System Requirements Based On River Characteristics, Design An Appropriate Outboard Engine Configuration, And Evaluate Its Performance Through Static And Dynamic Testing. The Methods Employed Include Measuring The Main Dimensions Of The Vessel, Calculating Resistance Using Maxsurf Resistance With The Wyman Method, Designing And Installing An 8 Hp Outboard Engine, And Conducting Sea Trials To Assess The Vessel’s Actual Performance. The Results Indicate That The Yamaha Enduro 8 Hp Outboard Engine Provides Optimal Performance, With A Simulated Speed Of 6.25 Knots And An Average Sea Trial Speed Of 9 Knots, With A 31% Difference Influenced By Propeller Efficiency, River Current Effects, Displacement Variation, And Trim Adjustments During Testing. Furthermore, Vessel Operation At Low Speeds Does Not Cause Disturbances To The Mangrove Ecosystem, Demonstrating That The Designed Propulsion System Is Effective And Suitable For Supporting Mangrove Maintenance Activities In The Region.
