The implementation of watchkeeping duties by deck officers play an important role in maintaining navigational safety, particularly in port areas with high traffic density. Port of Teluk Bayur is one of the main ports in western Indonesia with relatively dense commercial shipping activities, thereby requiring professionalism and accuracy from deck officers in carrying out their watchkeeping duties. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the duties and responsibilities of deck officers in maintaining navigational safety during watchkeeping at the port. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were conducted through field observations, interviews with deck officers and related personnel, as well as documentation studies of ship logbooks and operational procedures. Research findings indicate that the execution of watchkeeping duties by the officers on KM PAHALA adhered to established procedures and was supported by the optimal use of navigation equipment. However, performance was not fully optimized due to factors such as high workloads, limited rest periods, and intense vessel operational activity. Measures taken to address these challenges included the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), effective task allocation, enhanced supervision by the master, and the utilization of navigation equipment in accordance with STCW regulations.
