Abstract
Chipper motor is one of the main components used to cut logs into small chips. HHQ chipper motor with 315 KW power requires a reliable and efficient starting system. One of the starting methods used is Direct-On-Line (DOL) starting. This study analyzes the performance and reliability of the DOL starting system on the 315 kW HHQ chipper motor. The methods used include collecting technical data on the HHQ Chipper motor, measuring the initial starting current, no-load and partial load currents and the operating voltage of 690 V. The results of the analysis show that the DOL starting system produces a very high starting current, which can cause a significant voltage drop in the power grid, potentially disrupting the operation of other equipment. This study provides recommendations for the implementation of an optimal starting system based on performance analysis and case studies conducted, in order to improve the efficiency and reliability of chipper motor operations at PT. Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper Tbk Perawang.
