Abstract

In the metal cutting process/machining process, the friction that occurs between the chisel blade and the work material/workpiece will cause a high heat temperature increase, caused by the cutting process which occurs. The high temperature occurs due to the large pressure caused by the cutting force on the surface. The chisel blade will experience a decrease in sharpness or wear or damage to the chisel blade. The method used in this analysis is monitoring the temperature increase of the workpiece material and the chisel when carrying out turning activities, as well as observing and analyzing fluid velocity against the temperature of the workpiece. in the turning process of ST 37 steel material, it shows that the most significant increase in temperature occurred in the turning process of ST 37 material with Ethylene coolant type, a feed depth of 1.5 mm and a feed motion of 0.19 mm/put resulting in average temperature data of 179.1 ˚C where a significant increase in temperature can affect the service life of lathe tools, the choice of coolant type can significantly influence the machining temperature during the manufacturing process, and can affect the service life of lathe tools. the use of ethylene type coolant, at the parameter level: vc 755 mm/min and ap: 1.5 mm is not effective in reducing material temperature during the ST37 material turning process 2. When using the VCO (virgin) type of coolant coconut oil) gets a good effectiveness score in reducing material temperature during turning and is recommended as a type of coolant that is suitable for the turning process of ST37 steel material.
