Abstract
Bridges are vital infrastructure that connect two areas separated by obstacles such as rivers. One key structural component of a bridge is the abutment, which supports the bridge ends and resists earth pressure from behind. This study focuses on redesigning the abutment to accommodate increasing loads due to traffic growth and seismic risks. The bridge reviewed has a total length of approximately 60 meters, consisting of three spans of 20 meters each. A wall-type abutment is chosen, suitable for soft soil conditions (NSPT < 15). The redesigned abutment structure for the Bengkalis River bridge uses reinforced concrete piles with a 40 cm diameter and a depth of
24 meters. The pile cap measures 9.6 meters in length, 2.6 meters in width, and 0.7 meters in height. The bottom abutment wall has a width of 9.6 meters, a height of 2 meters, and a thickness of 0.7 meters. The structural analysis and design were performed using Midas Civil software. The software enabled detailed modeling and load analysis according to applicable standards. Based on the analysis results, reinforced piles and pile caps were designed to ensure structural safety under traffic and seismic loads.
