Abstract

Language is an important means of communication that must be understood by both parties to be effective. Indonesian is derived from Malay, which since the 7th century AD has been a unifying language and lingua franca in Southeast Asia. Malay is characterized by simplicity because it does not recognize levels. In Bengkalis, Malay with local dialects is still used, but the Arabic Malay script is starting to be eroded by the influence of other languages. This research aims to develop an Android-based Arabic Malay script dictionary application as an effort to preserve culture. The development method uses the Waterfall method with sequential stages of needs analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. The research results are an application that makes it easier for people to understand and learn the Arabic Malay script, while also supporting the preservation of local Bengkalis culture so that it remains known to future generations. This research contributes to the fields of information technology and cultural preservation, so that historical values and regional identity can be maintained amidst the changing times.
