Abstract
This study aims to analyze the structural strength of the midship section of an oil tanker using the Finite Element Method (FEM), by comparing two classification standards: Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI) and Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (NK). The midship section was selected as the focus because it is a critical area that bears bending moments, shear forces, and pressure from both cargo and marine environmental loads. Structural modeling was carried out in both 2D and 3D using AutoCAD and Ansys Static Structural software. The simulation results show that the applied loading produced a maximum deformation of 45.504 mm for the BKI standard and 31.00 mm for the NK standard. The maximum equivalent von Mises stress obtained was 219.88 MPa for the BKI structure and 214 MPa for the NK structure. The calculated maximum safety factor was 1.137 for BKI and 1.164 for NK. These results indicate that the structure designed under the NK standard has slightly better mechanical performance compared to the BKI standard under the same loading conditions.
