Abstract

Students who live in boarding houses often face challenges in managing finances due to limited income, modern lifestyles, and high exposure to digital media. This condition makes financial management an important aspect that needs to be studied, especially related to the psychological and behavioral factors that affect it. This study aims to analyze the influence of social media, hedonistic behavior, and emotional intelligence on the financial management of boarding school students, as well as compare the contribution level of each variable. The research method uses a quantitative approach with data collection techniques through questionnaires that were distributed to 100 boarding school student respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data analysis was carried out using the Structural Equation Modeling method based on Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results of the study showed that social media and hedonistic behavior did not have a significant effect on financial management, while emotional intelligence had a very significant positive influence and became the dominant factor that explained student financial management. These findings confirm that internal psychological aspects are more decisive than external factors. This research recommendation encourages educational institutions to integrate emotional intelligence training in financial literacy programs, as well as encourage students to improve their self-regulation skills in daily financial management. Further research is suggested to add mediator variables such as financial self-efficacy or self-regulation to expand understanding of the determinants of financial behavior.
